What is the Backstretch Foundation?
The “backstretch” is where the horses live and are cared for, far from the spotlight of race day. Behind every thrilling race is a dedicated team working seven days a week — grooms, trainers, exercise riders, and more — ensuring the health and well-being of the horses.

Founded in 2012, the HRA Backstretch Foundation supports these essential workers by offering financial assistance to those injured or ill, hosting memorials for racing community members, and organizing events to foster connection and well-being.
