...I had just reached the fifth pitch of ice while out climbing in Cougar Canyon when I saw a flash of something beige out of the corner of my eye. I was alone near the top of the mountain in a very small bowl with what I assumed to be a cougar. Moreover, I was attached to a tree, using it as the anchor, and my hands were occupied with belaying my buddy who was half way up the climb. I scanned the treeline, ice axe in hand for defence. Once my friend had joined me at the peak, I found the tracks. It was a cougar. It was watching us intently from an exposed log across the way, needless to say our climbing location had been aptly named...
